Love is not always romantic, nor is it always reserved for another person. I believe love is actually very broad, and can be interpreted in many different ways, everyone has their own ideas of what love is. To me, love is doing something you really enjoy, something you want to spend time doing or watching. Maybe you have a healthy obsession with it, always looking forward to days when you can do the activity you love.
What I really love, is soccer. If you’ve read my bio, or even glanced at my user name you probably already know this. Soccer to me has all the criteria I just listed above; It’s fair to I’m obsessed with it, it always brings me enjoyment, I have my own game days and all the games of the club I support marked on the calendar, It;s a huge part of my life. I have been playing soccer since I was five years old, however I only loved playing the game, I found watching too tedious. I was mainly a hockey fan for the first few years of childhood, after all no one in my family actually liked soccer. Sure my dad was born in England, but he never really cared one way or another, I had no my role-models who watched the game, so I just dismissed it. Then came the 2006 World Cup, my view on the sport changed forever. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Canada or Europe, the FIFA World Cup is a huge deal.
I sat down and watched some games and I was captivated. I was still relatively young, but old enough to appreciate what was going on. One team really caught my eye, Germany, Watching them play was a treat, the way played as a team, the intensity they brought , and the brilliant tactical way they played soccer. I became a German supporter, much to the ire of my British dad, to this day he still threatens to disown me for cheering the Germans on. The tournament ended, but my love for soccer had just started. Soon the Barclay’s Premier League started, and a really became hooked. I would now go out of my way to play soccer as much as possible, playing it and watching it were the two things I loved to do most. The beauty of the game has always been a factor of why I love it so much.
It’s not a crude game like hockey or American football, where people just bash each other around, and it’s not played at a snails pace like baseball. So much is packed into that 90 minute game, soccer is so much more than kicking a ball around. It’s a battle of endurance, skill, focus and tactics. Soccer is the thing I truly love the most, it has become a huge part of my life, I could not imagine living without it
