Sometimes, it’s funny how opposite friends can be. This is the case with one of my close friends, who is actually my cousin. Yes, he have grown so close that I honestly consider him to be one of my better friends that I have in my life, yet we are so different. It all starts off with our appearances. He is a tall, well built, strong guy, with distinct features and natural nice flowing hair. I have to admit it, he is a pretty good looking guy. Then you have me. Short, skinny, glasses, a hair full of gel to make it look decent. On the whole, average and forgettable. I am not trying to put myself down of course, I am perfectly happy with the way I look, it is just that we are so different looking it’s like something out of a movie. Our personalities are also very different. He is charismatic, loves to be social and talk, I am shy, and prefer to keep to myself most times. He likes to spend weekends going out to parties, having a good time with a large group of friends, drinking and what not. I like to spend my weekends in my house, playing video games or maybe do something with my small friend circle, certainly not party however. My cousin can open up to anyone, be himself around people he has just met. The only may I can do that is when I finally grow comfortable with a person, and who knows how long that will take. Hard work is what got/what is getting me through school, I have to work for good marks. On the opposite, my cousin has been gifted with one of those winds that annoyingly knows everything with out putting out any effort. He doesn’t try hard because he doesn’t need to. He is an extrovert, I am an introvert.
The only reason we talk, yet alone are close, is because we share all the same interests. Mainly,of course, soccer. He is one of the people that got me into soccer when I first started it. He may be a Liverpool fan, and I may be a Chelsea fan, but that is only a benefit. It brings new perspectives to how we both see the game, Nothing like a fierce sports rivalry to bring people together, We also love video games, read the same types of books, like the same movie genres, share the same view on politics and such, and generally have the same attitude towards many other things. It just goes to show you that appearance and personality are not everything. Sometimes you can be complete opposites, yet still be very close with one person. That is the case for my cousin and I, and our differences are a reason we enjoy each others presence. After all, if you always the same as everybody you like and are close too, life would get pretty boring.
